Could your practice be at risk from non-compliance with current employment law?

Dear Doctor,

We are proud to announce we were recently recertified by Bent Ericksen & Associates, the leading Human Resource Compliance company in dentistry, to provide doctors with one of the most important elements of their practice...an HR Compliance Manual.

The reality is...you could be at risk from non-compliance with current employment law. Read on and learn how we can help you protect one of your most important assets, your practice...

Today's workplace is a legal minefield that can explode on unprepared employers. Each year organizations lose millions in legal fees, lost production and court judgments, with fines alone for dentists averaging $25,000. Don't let this happen to you. Compliance with current HR law is vital to protecting one of your greatest assets - your practice.

Do you need help with becoming, or staying, compliant?

As Certified Bent Ericksen & Associates Human Resources Specialists, we will walk you, step-by-step, through the process of becoming or staying compliant with current employment law, advising and supporting you throughout the process of developing your HR policies and procedures, in the form of a customizable HR Policies and Procedures Handbook and individual employee policy manuals.

These manuals will include information on key office policies pertaining to issues such as:

-- Medical Benefits
-- Life Insurance
-- Sick Leave/Well Pay
-- Paid Time Off/Vacation
-- Paid Holidays
-- Bereavement Leave
-- Retirement Plans
-- Severance Pay
-- Breast Feeding at Work
-- Leave for School Activities
-- Meal Periods and Rest Breaks

Once complete, we will present this information to your staff. Depending on your location, this meeting will either be in your office or via a conference call. We will be there to answer their questions - and yours - and to help you make the adjustments necessary to become and stay compliant.

Develop, customize, implement, update, maintain - professional guidance and support from start to finish!

Not sure if you need help or not? Let's find out. Answer 'yes' or 'no' to the following questions:

1. Are you aware that at-will employment law does not apply to protected class employees? (Do you know what constitutes "protected class"?)

2. When purchasing a practice, can you, as the new owner, be penalized for any labor violations during the previous owner's watch?

3. Have you updated your policy manual to include contemporary policies pertaining to issues like body piercings, tattoos, social media, personal cell phone and cell phone camera use during work hours?

4. Are you performing or having background checks performed before hiring any new staff member?

5. Do you pay overtime to everyone on your staff, including office managers and hygienists, regardless of whether they are salaried or per hour, when they work more than 40 hours in a week?

The nuts and bolts - how the Bent Ericksen process works.

As of 2010, Bent Ericksen's HR product, called "HR Director," will be web-based, allowing you access to your written policies and procedures from any computer, any time, and in any location as long as you have access to the internet. You will have a unique ID and password, and, once logged in, you can review, print, and modify policies or procedures as necessary. There will be levels of password security which will vary access for staff versus employer or manager.
